Get to know viruses

Virus, it is known to pervades our world, and which is too small to be seen by our eyes. Comparing with the bacteria and fungi, the viruses are much smaller and the diameters of viruses are only 0.02~0.3µm -- 0.4%~6% of the bacteria. We can see them only by the electron microscope. Just because of this, their Infectious and destructive power is even more striking. Hepatitis B, influenza, HIV and other infectious viruses result in numerous tragedies.

With the high-traffic communication in our daily life, viruses spread in numerous ways rapidly and globally. Prevention and control shall be taken before treatment. The fastest way of the infection is by contacted via an infected person and an infected surface.

Window and door handles, which are the most frequent objects we contact in our daily life. Because of the cross usage by people, the surface of handles are attached by a variety of unpreventable virus, bacteria and fungi. Therefore, the exposure risk of virus, bacteria and fungi can be significantly reduced if there is a way to remove those microorganism.


There are 2 common anti-bacterial technologies:

1. Silver ion based technology;

2. Titanium dioxide photocatalyst based technology.


However, some weaknesses of these 2 technologies are existing and affect the actual effectiveness. Silver ion based technology can only works on bacteria and itself is a heavy metal and may cause toxic pollution. While titanium dioxide photocatalyst based technology can only be effective when it is exposed to sunlight so that areas without sunlight may not be beneficial to this technology. It has been critical to have a new technology that can work on virus, bacteria and fungi and no need to be exposed to the light.


CIVRO & Nanocoat® Anti-Bacterial Coating technology

CIVRO together with the Belgium famous hardware brand SOBINCO, brings in Nanocoat Anti-Bacterial Coating technology to provide a healthier and better life for people. This brand new technology is intellectual property (IP) protected and unique in its kind as it works on 3 levels at the same time: antiviral, bacterial and fungal.


In a joined effort between SOBINCO, daughter company STA and the biogenetic laboratories of the University of Coimbra (Matera, Portugal), a new anti-bacterial surface coating has been developed to prevent the spread of bacteria, fungi and viruses via infected surfaces of so called high-traffic objects, such as windows and doors handles.

How does it work?


A silica-based nanoparticle coating with a bioactive agent that upon direct contact with a bacteria, virus or fungi is applied on the aluminium surface. Thus this bioactive agent perforates the cell membrane and quickly kills it.

Advantages of Nanocoat® coating technology


The Nanocoat® coating could work on 3 levels simultaneously: bacteria, fungi and virus.

1. Unlike silver ion based technology, the antimicrobial activity of Nanocoat® does not lose its power.

2. A low mount of active substance is used and it is lasting for a very long time.

3. Sufficient high surface concentrations of bioactive agent is applied to reduce the probability of bacterial resistance.

4. Solica is one of the most common raw materials in the world and it is even used in food, so that it is very safe without heavy metal or toxic pollution would be generated.

5. The Nanocoat coating can be applied on anodizing, powder coating, liquid coating and exposed to the light.


Nanocoat coating technology is certified by professional test ISO 22196 / JIS Z 2801. Anodised aluminium pieces with Nanocoat® were tested in an independent laboratory in Germany (Hohenstein Institute) and obtained the highest score in terms of antiviral activity. It is safe, reliable and long-lasting.
